SPP PHD Qualification Program

Besides its Winter School series, SPP2199 held three PhD Qualification Workshops in 2025. Besides teaching new skills, tools, and methods, these workshop provided another opportunity to get to know other labs within the SPP and network among peers.

The first workshop was hosted by Sarah Diefenbach, Daniel Ullrich,  at LMU Munich on May 15th and 16th. This workshop lectured on “Publication Strategy and Academic Profile Building” by Florian Alt and Stefan Schnegass, techniques for a “Mid-Thesis Booster” provided by the LMU Graduate Center, “Time Management” by Sarah Diefenbach, as well as “Research Methods for HCI beyond the Standard” by Sarah Diefenbach and Daniel UIlrich.

Prediction: Workshop attendees after successful future CHI submissions

The second workshop, hosted at RWTH Aachen on July 3rd and 4th, by Jan Borchers, focused on “How to Write Successful CHI Papers”. 

The third workshop was hosted by Susanne Boll at the University of Oldenburg on December 11th and 12th. This workshop included lectures on “Soma Design” by Pavel Karpashevich, “Quick-and-Dirty Prototyping” by Heiko Müller, and “Grant Proposal Writing” by Jochen Meyer.
