SPP Winter School 2024
The annual SPP2199 Winter school retreat was held in Mürren, Switzerland from the 11th to the 15th of March 2024. Thirty-six attendees gathered in this five-day event to discuss plans and progress of their joint projects as well as the individual PhD-projects of the students. PhD students in attendance presented posters of their most recent publications, their main PhD topics and some of their ongoing work for critique and advice from their peers and consortium members.
Three exciting keynotes by Florian Michahelles (TU Vienna), Eva Hornecker (Bauhaus University Weimar) and Christian Holz (ETH Zurich) provided food for thought and sparked lively discussions. The work programme included workshops on methods such as Thematic Analysis, practical tips on publication writing, as well as an outlook on job opportunities beyond the PhD.
An introduction to the sport of curling provided excellent opportunities to socialise. The primary outcomes from the winter school were planned joint publications in areas of scalability, proposals on a PhD qualification programme to incorporate into the coming years of the second phase of this priority programme, and strengthening of synergies among participants, with the understanding that their work has many intersections and similarities which ultimately benefit from increased cooperation and collaboration.
