The annual SPP2199 Winter school retreat happened in Bad Hersfeld from the 17th to the 21st of February 2025. Fourty-three attendees gathered in this five-day event to discuss plans and progress of their joint projects as well as the individual PhD-projects of the students.
PhD students in attendance presented posters of their most recent publications, their main PhD topics and some of their ongoing work for critique and advice from their peers and consortium members.

Three exciting keynotes by Linda Onnasch (TU Berlin), Claudia Müller-Birn (FU Berlin) and Jörn Hurtienne (Uni Würzburg) provided food for thought and sparked lively discussions. The work program included workshops on methods such as AI Applications, practical tips on publication writing, as well as using sensor based data for activity recognition.

The primary outcomes from the winter school were, planned joint publications in areas of scalability, proposals on a PhD qualification program to incorporate into the coming years of the second phase of this priority program and strengthening of synergies among participants, even those in different priority programs, with the understanding that their work has many intersections and similarities which ultimately benefit from increased cooperation and collaboration.
